This has been a challenging week! I got up Monday morning and went into prayer for my brother, Griffin, who was scheduled for surgery in Chapel Hill, NC for bladder cancer. Another brother, a spiritual brother in Christ, called later in the morning to inform me that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32 KJV).

Truth Overrides True!

After prayer, I reached out to my sister-in-law, Griffin’s wife, to ask if the surgery had begun. Her response? “He has been discharged! Griffin is doing fine, very sore but good.” The operation was quick and successful. The cancer had been removed! To God be All the glory!!!

While still rejoicing, I got the call from my spiritual brother in another state about his cancer diagnosis. His wife joined the conversation commenting, “We’re trying to stay encouraged.” Sensing their stress, my wife and I tried to encourage them. We concluded that God is orchestrating and working it out. He had gone into the hospital for an unrelated issue when the cancer was discovered. And consequently, it was detected early! The doctors feel it can be addressed through surgery, although the surgery will be complex and multi-layered.

Now this is what I know. Although the diagnosis was confirmed as true, the truth supersedes true. Jesus said, “I am the truth,” (John 14:6). The true situation you may currently be dealing with is perhaps unfavorable. It may even seem impossible. But the truth specializes in things that men say are impossible. And He can do what no other power, nothing but Holy Ghost power, can do! Jairus’ daughter was dead! It was a true situation. But the truth said, “Talitha koum” (Little girl, get up) and true had to acquiesce to truth. She got up! (Mark 5:35-42).

I could go on and on with examples of truth vs. true, but to keep it brief, I must hasten to conclusion. True: They crucified Jesus, put His body in a tomb and sealed it with a heavy stone, but the Truth got up out of the grave with all power of heaven and of earth in His hands! Suffice it to say, whatever you are facing, even if the report is true, truth overrides true! And Jesus, the truth, has also sent us the Spirit of truth to live in us permanently!
