May 30, 2024 It's A Legacy Weekend in the DMV

It’s Legacy Weekend in the DMV! This Saturday and Sunday, June 1 & 2, 2024, we gather from across the globe to honor and celebrate the impact, footprint, and love-filled legacy of our founding pastor, Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr., and Co-Pastor Susie Owens. This time, I will use this platform for brief but heartfelt reflections on our beloved pastors who transitioned from their direct leadership roles as senior pastor and co-pastor earlier this year to emeritus status.

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15)

Their impact has been felt worldwide, but their home is right here in the DMV! For well over half a century, Bishop Alfred Owens, Jr. and Co-Pastor Susie Owens have been waging war on the devil’s kingdom in our nation’s capital! It has been their God-ordained mission and labor of love! Many churches have abandoned the city and moved out into the suburbs, but Bishop Owens made a conscious decision to maintain his position in the heart of the city. Located deep in the northeast ghetto, long before gentrification, and refusing to move even as powerful developers have swooped in, he has been a voice “crying in the wilderness: ‘Make straight the way of the LORD!’” (John 1:23)

Through their preaching gifts, expressed in love for all people and a heart for souls, thousands, yes, thousands in the DMV alone have been rescued from the devil’s agenda! Many former drug dealers, alcoholics, fornicators, and adulterers are now delivered and serving as officers in the LORD’s church! Former baby mamas and baby daddies have become responsible and mature mothers and fathers. Because of Bishop and Co-Pastor’s example of educational excellence (both have earned doctoral degrees), many have gotten back in school and attained bachelor’s, master’s, and terminal degrees!

Just as they never left their mission in the heart of the city, Bishop and Co-Pastor Owens have never abandoned their love for us. It was expressed even in the way they selected a successor to continue the work and lead us to the next level of greater. Suffice it to say, we honor, salute, and love you both, Bishop and Co-Pastor Owens, for how you have led us and served us with humility, grace, and integrity! Thank you for your great legacy of LOVE!

Focus Quote: “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” (1 Cor. 13:13 NKJV).

Note: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! to all who came to help me celebrate my 70th birthday last Saturday! You flooded my home with love! I can never repay the love you showed to me!!!!
