June 5, 2025, One Sound!

“Indeed it came to pass when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD, and when they lifted their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying: ‘For He is good, for His mercy endures forever,’ that the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God”
(2 Chronicles 5:13-14 NKJV).
One Sound!
We are currently witnessing one of the most divisive periods in the life of our nation since the civil war. We are more politically and racially divided than at any point since that watershed event in the mid-19th century. At the same time, we are approaching the most spiritually unifying time in the history of the church established by the LORD, Jesus in Matthew 16:18.
This Sunday, June 8th, is Pentecost Sunday! Many churches will commemorate and celebrate the day when 120 of the LORD’s disciples were gathered in the Upper Room in Jerusalem, awaiting the descension of the Holy Spirit. “They were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1). This was reminiscent of when the first temple was completed in Jerusalem. The people were unified with one sound praising and thanking God so that the glory cloud filled the house of the LORD. The priests had to stop ministering because of the thickness of His presence.
At our church, GMCHC, last Sunday, we got a glimpse, a precursor, of Pentecost Sunday when our pastor was only able to read the text, Exodus 12:13-14, and give the title of his sermon, “I’ve Been Covered the Whole Time,” before the glory of the LORD fell from heaven and filled the house so that he could not complete the sermon.
My prayer is that there will be the unity of one sound among the people of God not only on Pentecost Sunday but going forward so that we might be the catalyst for the healing of our divided nation. Lord, make us one family, the body of Christ!
Focus Quote: “Now I plead with you brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” –1 Corinthians 1:10 NKJV
