February 27, 2025, My Times are in His Hands!

These are challenging, stressful, and uncertain times for our nation and many across the globe, in our neighborhood and church who have been directly or indirectly impacted by heartless and downright mean-spirited actions taken by the current prideful administration in the White House since January 20, 2025.  But do not lose heart. There is a God in heaven, “all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down” (Daniel 4:37).

My times are in Your hand: deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me” (Psalm 31:15).

My Times are in His Hands!

It just might be that we have never witnessed a more pivotal watershed moment in our lifetime in America than what we are seeing now. It is reminiscent of the pre-World War I era when the first non-serial American film to ever be produced was shown in the White House and praised enthusiastically by the president, Woodrow Wilson. It was a pure racist film by D. W. Griffith, entitled “The Birth of a Nation,” which glorified the Ku Klux Klan. When it began playing in theaters in 1915, a man from Kentucky got so excited that he left the theater, found a fifteen-year-old African American high school student and shot him to death (See Cone, 2011, The Cross and the Lynching Tree). That man, like many today, undoubtedly sensed or believed he had the support of the president.

So, our nation and our mothers and fathers have been through times like these before. And we have always survived because “we have come this far by faith, leaning on the LORD.” The times are desperate, but we are encouraged and heartened to know that our times are in His hands! And in the Word of God, I’ve got a hiding place! “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me” (Psalm 27:5).

I lived through a part of the Jim Crow era on a sharecropping farm and watched my father and mother battle racism, prejudice, and discrimination without ever losing faith in God. They were woke too. They knew how to watch and pray, always standing on the faithful promises of God. And God blessed them and brought them through victoriously. He will deliver us from the hand of our enemies. Our times are in His hands!

Focus Quote: “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:13 NKJV).
