“Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD…He will come to us like rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth” (Hosea 6:3 NKJV).

Let us Know!

“These are the times that try men’s souls…Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.”

Those words, written by Thomas Paine in a pamphlet called, “The American Crisis,” almost two-and-a-half centuries ago are eerily relevant today. We are witnesses to morally bankrupt characters seeking to seize power in the highest levels of government, most notably, the executive branch. Many new television shows have an agenda of blatantly promoting same-sex relationships and fornication. We may go into crisis mode and agonize about the next generation, our children, and grandchildren, as the adversary ups his ante through arrantly vulgar media and music.

But in my reading, my SOAP (Scripture Observation Application Prayer) time, one morning, a verse in Hosea, Chapter 6 seemed to rise from the page for me.  It challenged, admonished, and encouraged me!  Although I’d preached a sermon entitled, “Knowing Jesus,” and quoted scriptures about how we should only boast about knowing God, this verse spoke to my spirit in a fresh, new way, that I had not experienced before.

And “He Will Come to Us Like Rain”

Regardless of what is going on around us, if we KNOW Him, if we pursue the knowledge of the LORD, He will come to us like the former rain which fell in Israel in the autumn season, October-November, and the latter rain in the spring, March-April and refreshed the land so there was great productivity and abundance.  We pursue Him by reading and studying His Word daily, praying consistently, and worshipping, seeking to know what we can do for Him daily.  Don’t you just love that!  He will come to us like a refreshing rain, taking away the dryness of our bereft and depressed spirits when we pursue the knowledge of Him

Despite the perilous nature of the politically tyrannous and morally bankrupt times in which we live, as long as we know Jesus, and pursue the knowledge of the LORD daily, we will be at peace in the midst of it all! And we will win the victory!

Focus Quote: “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18 NKJV).
