“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33, NKJV).

Pass the Peace: A Prescription for Peace!

If you have ever held any leadership position, you know that whenever trouble of any kind strikes, your followers are watching to see what you are going to do. Your response will either assuage their anxiety or add to it. In John 16, the perfect leader Jesus, forewarns His followers about the troubles they will face, but He wants them to be at peace. To have that peace, they only need to look to Him.

John 16:33 is our prescription for peace. Jesus gave us a what, where, and why prescription for peace! First, the what. “In the world you will have tribulation.” We simply must face the fact that in this world we are surrounded by trouble and troublemakers. Jesus told his followers what to expect. There is no trouble-free life. Trouble in my way! I have to cry sometimes—BUT…

Second, he told them where to find peace in the midst of trouble. “In Me you may have peace.” Jesus offers us a peace that surpasses all understanding. It is a deep and abiding peace that we obtain through focusing on Him, reading His words, talking to Him and knowing that He is with and within us. Jesus will fix it!

Third, He tells us why we can have peace that fills us with hope and courage. Because “I have overcome the world.” Jesus gained victory over both sin and death! He conquered those two evil slave masters, and He now lives within us! That is why we can have such astounding peace in the midst of all our troubles!

Thank God for Jesus and the prescription for PEACE that He left for us! So now let’s pass the PEACE!!! Share the prescription for peace that He has given us with everyone.
