Confession is good for the soul. So, I confess that I enjoy eating comfort foods. I also enjoy being healthy, and eating too much rich food is just not healthy. As the seventeenth century English physician Thomas Moffett warned, we dig our graves with our teeth!

“For we are the temple of the living God” (2 Cor. 6:16b NLT).

Digging Our Graves with Our Teeth

The blueprint for building the Tabernacle in the wilderness was given to Moses by God. The Tabernacle was to be the portable dwelling place for the presence of God to live as they journeyed to the Promised Land. The scriptures devote more room to describing and outlining instructions regarding the tabernacle than to any other single subject. Caring for the House of God then is of great importance to God.

Jesus was consumed with passion for the House of God. In Matthew 21:13 (NKJV) He exclaimed, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’ but you have made it a den of thieves.” And what is the House of God?  We are the House of God! We are the temple of the living God! He dwells in you and me!

How then should we care for God’s House?  Should our attitude be, “It’s my body, I’ll treat it as I please?  I will neglect regular exercise? I will eat as much as I want, as often as I want, and whatever I want?”  No! We simply must stop abusing and start taking excellent care of the House of the Lord, our bodies, His holy temple!

When we neglect proper exercise, consistent prayer, and fasting, we allow unscrupulous merchants to take up residence in the temple. They rob us of our quality time with God and steal our health. Instead of a house of prayer, His temple, our bodies, become a den of thieves! Let’s stop digging our graves with our teeth and be more intentional about caring for the temple! Too many of our people are having heart attacks, strokes, and contracting other diseases related to unhealthy eating habits. We are digging our graves with our teeth! But we can turn all of that around. Let’s do it together!

Focus Quote: “For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your BODY, and in your SPIRIT, which are God’s” (1 Cor. 6:20 KJV).

Special Note:  Pray without ceasing!

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man [or woman] availeth much” (James 5:16b).

Please continue to join us for our 5:14 pm prayer. “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14). Just pause and pray wherever you are. There is no call line or zoom link that you need to remember or retrieve and connect to. Just connect to God and pray! We and many others will also be praying with you. There is power in agreement!

Blessings, Peace, and Love,
