Finish it! Trust the Process, June 18, 2026

finish, end, completed, completion, finishing, stop, gray stop, finish, finish, finish, finish, finish, end, end

What project, goal, or dream did you start but abandoned when the struggle to finish it became too much?

“Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride” (Ecclesiastes 7:8 NLT).

Finish it! Trust the Process

When God plants an idea for a great project in our minds, we often get excited and may well begin pursuing it enthusiastically—for a while. But when opposition mounts, as it always does, we tend to lose the will to continue the pursuit. The adversary does not want to see the God idea in you succeed. So, he throws up every imaginable roadblock to stop you from finishing it. He will tell you, “God didn’t tell you to do that. You are not qualified. It will take too long, cost too much, you are too old, too young.” He might attack your health or stir up tension between you and your wife, your children, or some other friend.

I currently have at least two major projects that I have postponed in the face of opposition that seems insurmountable. I say postponed rather than canceled or abandoned because I know I must and will finish them. I cannot hold back a God idea, because like Jeremiah exclaimed, “His word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in!” (Jeremiah 20:9 NLT).

Finishing a God idea requires godly patience and trust in the process! Pride causes impatience. We think God’s timing is off and ours is better, failing to realize that our times are in His hands (Psalm 31:15) We must learn how to wait. Weariness while waiting is inevitable, “but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).

Finishing is better than starting, so, how do I finish this? I know! I’ll let the great poet, Edgar Guest, have the last word:

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill…

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you must—but don’t quit.

Finish it! As Guest also wrote: “And you never can tell how close you are.

It may be near when it seems afar.”

Focus Quote: “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
