There are six transformative words that can literally make the difference in a life of barely making it, to living your best life, a blessed life! Remember, we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) and we are, “Built to last!” (Pastor R. L. Carter, Jr.)
“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves” (Galatians 5:16 NLT).
Let the Holy Spirit Guide You!
As church folks we love to talk about how we are led by the Holy Spirit. But are we really? I posed that question to my students in the course I teach for Calvary Bible Institute, “New Testament Survey.” At the start of the dialogue, the answer was a resounding “Yes!” At the end, one student spoke the reflective sentiments of all, “Thank God for His grace!”
We certainly do allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in some things, but what about all things? Do we follow His guidance regarding healthy eating habits, or do you believe He led you to McDonald’s to have a big arch, large fries, and a coke? The Holy Spirit instructs, “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God” (Romans 12:1). But we say, “Lord, you can feed my soul but let me handle feeding the body.”
Do we allow Him to, “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips” (Psalm 141:3)? Are we “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (James 1:19)?
When we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in all things, we live by the power of God. Paul said, “For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it’s living by God’s power” (1 Corinthians 4:20). And when we live by His power, we do not do what our sinful natures crave. We are most “happy, holy, helpful, and healthy!” (Bishop A. A. Owens, Jr.) Live a blessed life! Live your best life! Six transformative words can assure this for us: Let the Holy Spirit guide you!
Focus Quote: “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace” (Romans 8:6 NLT)).
