October 17, 2024, Who Are You?
“Now when the tempter came to Him, he [Satan] said, ‘If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.'” (Matthew 4:3, NKJV).
Who Are You?
Really! Do you know who you are? What I mean is, do you know convincingly, decisively, without any doubt who you are? And whose you are! And the magnitude of your capacity? Imagine, Satan, who knew definitively who Jesus was, trying to plant doubt in His mind about who He was! Jesus had been on earth as part of a human family for some 30 years. Satan sought to appeal to weakness in His human, Adamic nature and to create mental confusion about who He really was.
Now if he tried to make Jesus doubt who He was, you can rest assured he will try to make you doubt who you are! “Can I really go back to school and get that degree?” He’ll subtly fill your mind with questions like: “Will I survive this illness?” “Can I really write that book?” “Am I even capable of doing what I hear God telling me to do?”
Satan knew who Jesus was and he also knows who you are. When he plants negative thoughts in your mind, tries to depress you and get you to doubt your potential, it is because he knows exactly who you are! “Beloved now we are children of God”(1 John 3:2a). As His sons and daughters, we have all the resources of heaven available to us. We have authority “over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19)! Now that’s the word of God and the word from God.
Jesus quoted God’s word to the enemy in response to each temptation. When you know His word, you can tell the enemy, tell yourself, I know who I am! I am God’s child! I will behave like a child of God should. I will live like a child of God should! And no one, no tempter, can cause me to be confused about who and whose I am! I can and I will reach my potential and do all that God has said I can do!
